I’ve been there twice. Once was in 2005 when some dredging upriver had destroyed the break entirely, then in 2001 when I was really young. I was too young to hire a car so I walked there with a board, a backpack and a $50 dollar tent. It was sick except I was still a fresh faced north coast kid and I had no experience with real localism and certainly no experience with Basque culture. I got a bit freaked out by the aggro in the water and then I got pummelled learning to tube ride on my backhand. When I was sick of it I walked along the coast road for 3 days days to get to Maniakoz. The basque teenagers threw things at me from their cars. Ha!
